Johnson Named MVC Defensive Player of the Week

Oct. 5, 2015

St. LOUIS -- Missouri State's Lily Johnson picked up her third Missouri Valley Conference award in the last eight days Monday (Oct. 5) as she was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week in volleyball. The sophomore outside hitter was last week's MVC Player and Scholar-Athlete of the Week.

Johnson registered the first 20-kill, 20-dig match for Missouri State (12-4, 3-0 MVC) in nearly a decade Friday at Wichita State, finishing with 20 kills and 21 digs in the Bears' 3-1 victory. It was MSU's first 20-20 match since 2006, and the first time since 2002 that a player managed that feat in fewer than five sets.

The Wildwood, Mo., native had at least four kills and four digs in every set, adding one block and one service ace to average 5.00 kills, 5.25 digs, and 5.38 points for the match. Johnson finished with a .250 hitting percentage, including six kills on .313 hitting in the final period.
