SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Missouri State's appearance at the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Tennis Individual Championship came to an end Sunday, Oct. 4, with the Bears picking up two victories while also earning two second-place finishes.
Phoebe Boeschen was the lone Bear to earn a singles victory Sunday. The freshman earned third place at No. 6 singles for MSU behind a 6-3, 6-2 performance over Bradley's Malina Wijesinghe.
Boeschen also played a role in MSU's top showing in doubles. She and sophomore teammate Anelisse Torrico Moreno battled Bradley's Ariel Dechter and Irinka Toidze in the championship match at the No. 3 position, but the Bradley duo took the title with an 8-5 win.
Missouri State's Miranda Poile was the lone Bears student-athlete to make it to the championship round. The senior eventually finished runner-up at No. 5 singles, falling to Aimee Manfredo of Bradley 6-4, 6-2 in the finals.
The Bears picked up a final victory in doubles thanks to the No. 2 tandem of Ekaterina Donetskova and Faty Khamissi. The two lost their tournament opener but wound up winning the consolation final for fifth place, defeating the Braves' Wijesinghe and Alexa Brandt 8-3.
The MVC Individual Championship served as the final event for the Bears as a team during their fall schedule. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Regional Championships take place from Oct. 15-19, with a select few of the Bears competing in the meet.
