STILLWATER - The Missouri State women's tennis team's appearance at the USTA/ITA Central Region Championship came to an end with the Bears' remaining doubles team narrowly falling to one of the country's best on Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
After advancing to the Round of 16 with two wins on Thursday, the Bears' duo of Miranda Poile and Ema Turudija were matched up with the 20th-ranked doubles team of Minnesota's Julia Courter and Paula Rincon-Otero Saturday.
Missouri State's tandem battled the Golden Gophers' top-25 doubles squad and dropped only one game, but fell to Courter and Rincon-Otero 8-6.
Two Bears also played in their final consolation singles matches of the tournament.
Sophomore Anelisse Torrico Moreno won by retirement in her lone match of the day, while Poile dropped her final singles match in straight sets.
"This was a great few days of tennis," Bears head coach Mallory Weber said. "We stepped up our level of play and competed well with our region's best. With hard work this offseason, we will have a lot to look forward to this spring."
The Bears' fall schedule came to a close with the conclusion of Saturday's action. Missouri State women's tennis begins its spring schedule on Jan. 15 at Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield against Wichita State.
