Missouri State Falls Short at Saint Louis, 4-3

FENTON, Mo. - Missouri State scored two goals in the second half to tie the game at 3-3, but Saint Louis' Shannon Knobloch notched the game-winner with 13 seconds remaining in regulation to push the Billikens past the Bears in college field hockey, 4-3, on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Scott Gallagher Soccer Park.

The Bears (2-7) scored two goals in the second half to tie the game at 3-3 with 19 minutes to go in the contest.

Junior Holly Scherer tied the game up at 1-1 with a goal in the sixth minute for MSU and scored her second goal of the game off a Sydney Richelieu assist to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Junior Charlie Redhead completed a two-goal comeback by scoring her fifth goal of the season in the 51st minute. Junior Leah Reitmayer was given the assist on Redhead's score.

Despite being outshot by the MSU 10-3 in the second half, Saint Louis (1-7) took advantage late as Knobloch was able to score the game-winner at the 69:47 mark off a penalty corner set up by Caitlin Gibson.

Four different players scored for Saint Louis in the game, while Billikens' goalkeeper Tori Westhead made seven saves.

Scherer led the Bears with five shots on goal, while freshman Andrea Soler Codina also stroked two shots on goal.

The Bears are set to play their next two games on the road, with a 12 p.m. game against Saint Francis (Pa.) in St. Louis at Scott Gallagher Soccer Park on Saturday, Sept. 27, and follow that with a trip to Iowa City to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28, at Grant Field.
