FARMVILLE, Va. - Freshman Daelynn DeMello gave Missouri State a 1-0 lead in the first half, but four unanswered goals pushed the Longwood Lancers past the Bears, 4-1, on Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Longwood Athletics Complex.
The Bears (2-4, 0-1) took control early and scored first in the 20th minute, when Daelynn DeMello used a deflection to score her second goal of the season.
The score went into half tied 1-1 after Longwood's Edel Nyland struck a shot top shelf with two minutes remaining in the first half.
Within two minutes of each other, Jessica Diaz and Rachel Lombardi scored Longwood's second and third goals of the game before the 55-minute mark, and Diaz put the game out of reach by notching her second goal in the final minutes to give the Lancers the win.
MSU outshot Longwood (3-4, 1-2) 10-7 and also held an 8-1 advantage in penalty corners. Lancers goalkeeper Lauren Bernard made six saves.
The Bears continue their Virginia road trip with a 6 p.m. game on Friday, Sept. 19, at No. 20 James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va.
