SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State hit .380 and held Evansville to 18 total kills in a 3-0 (25-11, 25-11, 25-13) victory in the final home volleyball match of the regular season Saturday at Hammons Student Center.
The Bears improved to 18-10 overall and 11-5 in Missouri Valley Conference play, while Evansville dropped to 8-21 and 4-13 in league matches.
Senior
Olivia Brand hit a blistering .522 with 14 kills to lead a group of four Bears that all hit .364 or better with at least nine kills. Freshman
Lily Johnson added 11 kills and a career-high five aces, while
Simone House and
Lynsey Wright had nine kills piece while hitting .538 and .400, respectively. House began the match with eight kills in her first eight swings.
The Bears took control the first set with a 7-1 run to extend their lead to 20-9, getting three kills from House during that stretch and six in the period. MSU hit .433 in the set, then improved that number to .455 in the second set with 18 kills against three errors. Missouri State scored the first six points of that set, led 17-6 on consecutive Johnson aces, and closed on a 6-0 run.
Missouri State blitzed the Purple Aces with a 9-0 run in the third set, including three aces from Johnson that helped the Bears lead 19-8. The MSU defense limited UE to .000 hitting in the final period and a .050 figure in the match with 18 kills and 14 errors.
Senior
Maddy Hogan led all players with 16 digs, and
MaryJo Kolze added two digs and an ace in her final home match. The Bears served eight aces against one error and held a 46-28 edge in total digs.
Missouri State concludes the regular season next weekend with visits to Illinois State at 7 p.m. Friday and Indiana State at 6 p.m. Saturday.
