SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Missouri State field hockey team kept the game scoreless through halftime, but the Kent State Golden Flashes scored two goals in the second half to defeat the Bears, 2-0, Friday, Oct. 3, at Betty and Bobby Allison North Stadium.

Friday's game was the conference opener for Kent State, which improved to 3-7 overall with the victory. The Bears fell to 2-10 overall and 0-2 in conference play with the loss.

MSU held an advantage after one half in shots (5-3) and shots on goal (3-2). However, the Golden Flashes outshot the Bears 11-2 in the second half and capitalized on one of their nine penalty corner opportunities in the second half.

Kent State's Julia Hofman took a shot in the 57th minute off a corner that deflected off an MSU defender. The ball came back to Hofman in the middle of the circle, where she sniped a shot into the back of the net to give the Golden Flashes a 1-0 lead.

The Golden Flashes gave themselves some breathing room seven minutes later. Alison Harmatz broke down the left side of the field and was 1-on-1 with MSU goalkeeper Megan Drew, before making a cross into Hannah Faulkner who scored a goal with an empty net to make it 2-0.

Freshman Andrea Soler Codina led the Bears with two shots on goal, while junior Holly Scherer had one. Junior Leah Reitmayer registered her second defensive save of the season.

The Bears are set to host a nonconference game against the Davidson Wildcats at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at Betty and Bobby Allison North Stadium.
