Six members of the Missouri State women's tennis team will be in action this weekend when the Bears compete in the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Tennis Individual Championship at the Waveland Tennis Courts in Des Moines, Iowa, on the campus of Drake University.
Tournament play begins at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, with three quarterfinal flights of doubles action. The first round of singles flights will take place following doubles on Friday, with consolation rounds finishing out the day.
The MSU doubles duo of Ledis Molina/Ekaterina Donetskova will compete in Flight 1 and will open against Wichita State's Aleksandra Trifunovic and Lucia Kovalova in the quarterfinals. In Flight 2 doubles, Springfield's own sophomore Mackenzie Rozell and freshman Abbey Belote will team up and take on the Bradley tandem of Ari Dechter and Irinka Toidse. In Flight 3, MSU sophomore Ema Turudija and freshman Rebecca McIsaac will challenge Natalia Parchowska and Cricket Geldermann of Illinois State.
Singles play will be conducted in seven flights and begin after the completion of the opening round of doubles action.
The Bears start with Turudija competing in Flight 1 as she matches up with Mariel Ante of Drake in the first round. Rozell will play in Flight 2 and take on Illinois State's Donna Haycock. Molina will represent MSU in Flight 3 and face Southern Illinois' Athena Chrysanthou. In Flight 4 for the Bears, Donetskova will square off with Marina Moreno of Evansville. Two freshman make up the final two flights, as Belote will represent MSU in Flight 5 and take on Northern Iowa's Sydney Wolfe, and McIsaac competes in Flight 6 and plays her opening match opposite Luca Pump of Wichita State.
The tournament will run from Friday through Sunday, Oct. 5. Results will be posted throughout the weekend to the Tournament Central website at mvc-sports.com.
