        COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Missouri State field hockey team gained an early lead vs. Ohio        State, but couldn't hold on as the Buckeyes defeated the Bears, 5-1, on Friday (Sept.        6).
        
         Hillary        Lawless (Sr., St. Louis, Mo.) gave the Bears (1-2) an early 1-0 advantage with her        first goal of the year. Lawless scored unassisted off a Buckeyes turnover just 3:50 into        the game.
        
         From there, Ohio State (2-1) claimed victory with five unanswered goals. Nora Murer got        the Buckeyes offense started when she took a center pass off a penalty corner and scored        past Bears goalkeeper Andrea        Bain (Sr., Victoria, British Columbia) with 25:33 showing on the clock to tie the match        at one goal apiece.
        
         About seven minutes later, Ohio State's Peanut Johnson gave the Buckeyes their 2-1        halftime advantage after she scored unassisted off a Missouri State turnover on the right        side of the cage.
        
         The Buckeyes pushed their lead to 4-1 with a pair of goals in the second period. Johnson        notched her second goal of the day 14:48 into the half. About 10 minutes later, Arielle        Cowie pushed the lead to three goals when she got a slap shot from the top of the circle        past Bain and into the net.
        
         Ohio State closed the scoring when Johnson picked up a hat trick with a goal in front of        the cage for what proved to be the final 5-1 margin.
        
         Ohio State out-shot the Bears 15-to-5, which included a 9-to-2 advantage in shots on goal.        Lawless led Missouri State with three shots. Holly        Scherer (So., Belmont, Ontario) and Liz        Young (So., San Diego, Calif.) also notched shots for the visitors.
        
         Missouri State will take on Bucknell on Saturday (Sept. 7) in Columbus. The match is        scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
