Missouri State sophomore Megan Furnish captured the Iowa Women's Amateur Golf Championship on Wednesday (July 31) in Mason City, Iowa.
The Cedar Rapids native posted 80-73-76--229 in three trips around the par 72, 5800-yard Mason City Country Club to edge Alex Zenor, also of Cedar Rapids, by two shots.
Tied for the lead entering the final round, Furnish started her day with a double bogey on the first hole, but quickly rebounded with a birdie at the second and shared the lead at the turn with Amanda Braun of Cedar Falls. She opened the back nine with a birdie at 10 before recording bogeys at 12, 13 and 14, but steadied herself down the stretch with pars on the last four holes.
As a freshman last season with the Bears, Furnish posted an 82.1 scoring average.
