SPRINGFIELD -- The Missouri State volleyball team completed its first trip through the Missouri Valley Conference schedule Saturday with a 25-18, 25-16, 25-20 sweep of visiting Bradley at Hammons Student Center.
Simone House's kill for a 13-10 Missouri State lead in the first set marked the first three-point lead for either side in the match, and the margin held at 15-12 when the Bears ripped off a 6-0 run that was book-ended by Kaitlin Jaeger kills, two of her six in the first period. MSU coasted from that 21-12 advantage and held Bradley to .045 hitting in the set.
Kayla Walton capped a 4-0 Missouri State run with a kill midway through the second set to put the Bears ahead 15-10 and added another for an 18-12 lead. Elise Monroe and Carly Thomas followed with kills for a 20-12 advantage and Missouri State hit .481 with 15 kills in the period for a 2-0 lead.
The third set was tightly-contested to a 9-8 score when MSU's 4-0 run pushed the home team ahead 13-8. Bradley closed to 16-14 before Jaeger and Olivia Brand combined for a block between kills from each player as part of a 6-0 run to a 22-14 advantage. Bradley pulled to 24-20 when Karen Rivatto closed the match with a kill.
Jaeger led the Bears with 11 kills on .385 hitting in the match, while Christine McCartney was close behind with nine kills and a .500 attack efficiency. MSU hit .299 compared to .130 for the Braves and led 46-36 in total kills. Ashley Mason had 18 digs as the Bears led 57-48 in that category, while Thomas had six kills, six digs and 38 assists.
The Bears improved to 13-8 overall and 5-4 in MVC play. Bradley dropped to 10-8 and 4-5 in league matches.
Missouri State continues its homestand Friday at 7 p.m. against UNI.
