Bronx Point Guard Commits to Basketball Bears

April 30, 2012

SPRINGFIED -- Westchester (N.Y.) Community College standout Tevin Bracey has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball for the Missouri State Bears this fall, MSU head coach Paul Lusk announced Monday (April 30).

A 6-foot-3, 180-pound point guard, Bracey is a native of Bronx, N.Y., and attended Gompers High School. He was an All-Region XV first-team selection this season for the Vikings and coach Tyrone Mushatt and finished third in the nation among NJCAA Division I players in assists per game.

"Tevin is like a coach on the floor," Lusk said. "He has great vision and passing abilities. He is a true point guard with great size and a great feel for the game. We're excited to get him here this summer and help us prepare for our foreign tour and the upcoming season."

As a sophomore this winter, Bracey had seven double-figure assist efforts in 28 games, averaging 7.8 assists overall for the season. He also scored 8.3 points and collected 4.0 rebounds and 2.6 steals per outing. In addition, he was a 73-percent free throw shooter and compiled a 2.73 assist-to-turnover ratio.

He helped the Westchester squad to a 13-18 overall record this winter. He sat out the 2010-11 season after transferring to Westchester from Technical Career Institutes, another NJCAA Division I program in New York. He played 10 games for the Generals as a freshman in 2009-10 and averaged 4.5 assists, 4.0 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.

He averaged double figures his junior and senior seasons at Gompers High School where he led coach Donial Rodriguez' team with 14.4 points and 8.8 assists per game his senior year. He also averaged 12.0 points, 7.0 assists and 6.5 rebounds as a prep junior.

Bracey is MSU's first signee of the spring commitment period, which runs through May 16 for basketball. He joins a trio of fall signees -- Bruce Marshall (C, 6-10, 205, Fr., Fayette, Mo., Fayette High), Marcus Marshall (SG, 6-2, 180, Fr., St. Paul, Minn., Johnson High) and Gavin Thurman (PF, 6-7, 210, Fr., Wichita, Kan., Heights High) -- on the list of Missouri State roster additions for the 2012-13 season.
