COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- USA Volleyball announced Friday (March 22) that Missouri State junior-to-be libero Ashley Mason earned a spot on the 2012 U.S. Women's National A2 Program roster.
The program, which includes 48 players with college eligibility remaining, will take place June 26-July 4 in Columbus, Ohio, and includes playing in the 2012 USA Volleyball Open National Championships June 30-July 4.
Mason concluded the 2011 season ranked fourth in the MVC and 79th nationally with an average of 4.71 digs per set. That average ranked fifth in school history for a single season, while her 523 total digs ranked sixth for a single season. The Granby, Mo., native topped the 20-dig mark nine times as a sophomore and had at least 10 digs in 25 matches.
Mason's honors for the 2011 season included a spot on the MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team, a two-time recipient of both the league's Defensive Player of the Week and Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards, as well as being Missouri State's winner of the MVC State Farm Good Neighbor Award in the fall.
The Bears finished the 2011 season 22-9 overall and 15-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference, earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time since 2003. Missouri State has reached 20 wins for 13 consecutive seasons, the seventh longest active streak in the NCAA.
