SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Bears senior softball player Stevie Pierce is this year's Missouri State intern with Career Athletes. Each University has one student-athlete that works as the campus representative with the career development service.
The University's partnership with Career Athletes gives the MSU student-athletes a way to connect with companies for post-playing career opportunities. The service conducts training and development seminars and provides the student-athletes with career education.
One of the main features of the Career Athletes service to the student-athlete is customized career networking websites. When the student-athlete creates a profile, he or she can access career opportunities and connect with potential employers in a personally-tailored manor.
"I like to explain it as a more professional Facebook," said Pierce. "It is a good way to make friends with companies that you might be interested in. It is really great for student-athletes to graduate, but what happens after that? Career Athletes is a really great way to get your life going after graduation."
As the Bears' on-campus representative, Pierce's main goal is to spread the word and grow the awareness about Career Athletes to her fellow student-athletes.
"My main goal is to get all of the student-athletes to sign up," continues Pierce. "The founder is a Missouri State alum and so I want to get everyone on board because it started here."
