ATHENS, Ohio -

Missouri State senior defender Reiann Stoute recorded a goal and placed three shots on goal, but the Missouri State field hockey team (4-9 overall, 2-2 Mid-American Conference) lost a 5-1 decision to the Ohio Bobcats on Saturday afternoon in Athens, Ohio.

Ohio's Taylor Brown continued to strengthen her case as one of the best players in the conference. The senior scored four goals, including the first three of the game, to bring her conference-leading points total to 29.

Brown wasted little time in getting the Bobcats on the board, as she scored about four-and-a-half minutes into the game off a deflection. The score remained 1-0 until Brown knocked in two goals in the span of about two minutes at 20:10 and 21:52 into the contest.

That's when Stoute got involved in the scoring. The senior defender found the back of the cage with about 11 minutes remaining in the first half. The goal was scored off a penalty corner, and Stoute was assisted by senior Chelsey Medlock and junior Laura Tavares. Stoute's score gave her a new career high in points.

However, Ohio's Laura Mastro gave the Bobcats a 4-1 advantage into halftime with a goal at the 30:17 mark.

Missouri State posted a strong defensive showing in the second half, as the held Ohio to just one goal - Brown's fourth on the day - on a penalty stroke. However, the Bears were unable to get the offense going, which made the final score 5-1.

Junior goalkeeper Andrea Bain stopped 13 shots in 18 attempts. Ohio out-shot the Bears by a 31-to-8 margin.

The Bears return to action with a conference game against Kent State on Oct. 19. The contest is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.
