Field Hockey Bears Defeated by Bobcats

Sept. 25, 2011

Box Score

Springfield, Mo.-Missouri State field hockey(3-6) fell to Ohio(8-2) today, Sept. 25. Though the score would show otherwise, the game was a grudge match all the way through as the Bobcats defeated the Bears 5-1.

The Bears got out to a quick start as Marisa Hendel dumped in a long pass from the 22 yard line to Casey Bayliss, making MSU's first and only goal of the match. Just a few minutes later Bears' standout defender Reiann Stoute would leave the game with an injury after making a big defensive save. Ohio would then go on a two goal scoring streak to end the first half on top 2-1.

The Bears would hit a lull again in the second half, as Ohio would come out firing. The Bobcats would see three more goals in the match, the first coming from Jessica Jue just a few minutes into the half. MSU would see some hope as Casey Bayliss appeared to knock in a goal off a penalty corner, but the goal would be waved off for being too high into the back of the net. Ohio would continue their scoring momentum with Brooke Edwards and Taylor Brown scoring the final two goals for Ohio, as the Bears lost 5-1. Bears' goalkeeper Andrea Bain would finish the match with 10 saves.

After the loss to Ohio, the Bears are now 0-2 in conference. MSU will continue their conference schedule as they hit the road to Mt. Pleasant, Mich. to take on Central Michigan for a doubleheader on Oct. 1 and Oct. 2.
