Deja Vu: Bayliss Named MAC Player of the Week...Again

Sept. 20, 2011

St. Louis -

Field hockey Bears' Casey Bayliss has been named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced Tuesday morning (Sept. 20).

Bayliss was the top scorer this past weekend for the Bears, coming up big in a 3-1 win over Saint Louis. Bayliss had two of the Bears' three goals in their home opener at Plaster Field, avenging a loss to the Billikens earlier this season on Aug. 28 in St. Louis, Mo.

During the Bears' victory, Bayliss teamed up with Hillary Lawless to find the back of the net two times. The first goal came as Lawless took off ahead of the pack and managed to flick it ahead to Bayliss. This was the fifth time Bayliss found the back of the net for the season. Bayliss and Lawless would connect again as Lawless passed it behind the SLU goalkeeper and in front of Bayliss. Bayliss would go on to knock it into the left side of the net, scoring the Bears' second goal of the match.

Though the Bears'(3-4) would struggle against a powerful Iowa(7-1) squad, Bayliss would continue to show her tenaciousness inside the scoring circle. Bayliss scored the first goal of the match just over four minutes into play, chipping it in off an assist from Catrina Schmidt. Bayliss has claimed seven of the Bears' 19 goals this season, tallying 17 shots, 14 of those shots being on goal.

Bayliss currently registers a shot percentage of .412 and a shot on goal percentage of .824, making her the Bears' most efficient and lethal scorer. The Bathurst, NSW, Australian native also has three assists on the season.

The Bears' will return home for a two game streak, taking on conference foes Kent State(Sept. 23) and Ohio(Sept. 25). Both matches will begin at 11 a.m. on Plaster Field.
