Final Stats
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The Missouri State field hockey Bears(3-4) could not get past a high-powered Iowa squad today, falling 10-2 to the Hawkeyes(7-1) in Iowa City in front of a crowd of 342.
At the start of the first half both teams came out firing, with the Bears scoring first just over four minutes into play. Casey Bayliss claimed the goal for MSU, chipping it in off of a nice pass from Catrina Schmidt. Iowa would answer back just a couple of minutes later with a goal from Sarah Drake. Nearly 20 minutes would pass by before the Hawkeyes struck again on a goal from Corrine Allen, putting Iowa on top 2-1. The Hawkeyes would then go on a scoring spree the next eight minutes, finishing the half with Bears' trailing 5-1.
The second half would begin with a three goal scoring streak for Iowa. Missouri State would finally answer with a goal from Sarah Bradley, bringing the score to 8-2, the Bears down. Despite the Bears' efforts, Iowa would go on to knock in two more goals, making the final outcome 10-2.
Missouri State only totaled nine shots for the match. Compared to Iowa's 32 shots, it appeared as if Missouri State goalkeepers Andrea Bain and Katie Mulloy faced a firing squad. Bain finished the match with 12 saves and six goals against. Mulloy finished with two saves and four goals against. Reainn Stoute and Chelsey Medlock tried to chip in on defense coming away with a defensive save apiece.
The Bears will look to get back on track this Friday, Sept. 23 versus Kent State and Sunday, Sept. 25 versus Ohio. Both matches mark a home stand for the Bears as they host both conference teams at Plaster Field. The matches are each slated to begin at 11 a.m. CT.
