Box Score
The Bears(3-3) came up big in their home premiere, knocking out the Billikens(1-6) 3-1 at Plaster Field. Missouri State came into the match looking for revenge from an early season loss to Saint Louis back on Aug. 28 in St. Louis, Mo.
Casey Bayliss and Hillary Lawless proved to be a dynamic duo for the Bears tonight, Sept. 15. Bayliss took home two of the Bears' goals for the night, both with assists from Lawless. The Bears' first goal of the match came not even two minutes into play. Lawless led a fast-paced breakaway, and then flicked it ahead to Bayliss. Bayliss found the back of the net for the fifth time this season.
The Bears' defense showed great effort and control over the Billikens, only allowing two shots for the entire match. The Bears managed to break up the only penalty corner shot of the first half, holding the Billikens shotless in the first 35 minutes of play. In the second half, Bayliss and Lawless connected for their second goal of the match. Lawless passed it behind the SLU goalkeeper and in front of Bayliss, as Bayliss knocked it into the left side of the goal. This tallied up Bayliss at six goals for the season. Less than 10 minutes later, SLU's Alanah Busby would score the first and only goal of the match for the Billikens. The Bears would find the back of the net one last time before minutes ran out, as Abbey Heller flicked it to Sarah Bradley in front of the goal. The Bears would hold the lead for the remainder of the game, settling the final score at 3-1.
The Bears have a quick turnaround as they hit the road to Iowa City, Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 1:00 pm.
