Sept. 14, 2011
The Missouri State field hockey Bears(2-3) will be hosting their home opener this Thursday, Sept. 15. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m. as the Bears faceoff against the Saint Louis Billikens(1-5) at Plaster Field. Missouri State will look to avenge an early season loss to the Billikens.
Casey Bayliss and Hillary Lawless lead the Bears in scoring with four goals apiece for the season. Coming in a close second in team scoring is freshman Sarah Bradley with three goals. Bradley is coming off a stellar performance against Appalachian State, scoring two of the Bears' three goals for the 3-2 victory. Reiann Stoute will be a forced to be reckoned with in the Bears' back field, leading the team with four defensive saves on the year.
There will be special events on campus during game day. The Bears will be at Plaster Student Union on the north lawn from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., where students, faculty and staff are encouraged to come out and play games for a chance to win prizes.
Later that night is Faculty and Staff Appreciation. Missouri State faculty and staff members are encouraged to come out to the game and cheer on the Bears in their first home match. Also, each member of the field hockey Bears' squad will select a faculty or staff member to be recognized at halftime of the match.
Today, Sept. 14, the squad participated in a team building exercise with the University's ROTC program, known as the Bear Battalion. In the team building exercise the Bears were required to repel down a 50-foot tower. The Bears learned to build their trust and communication skills through this training. The Bear Battalion has been invited to be a special guest at the Bears' home opener, as well.
The Boomer Cup will also be taking place at the match. The Boomer Cup is a residence hall challenge, encouraging residence hall members to get involved at Missouri State through a little friendly competition. This Boomer Cup challenge asks residence hall members to attend Thursday night's game. The residence hall with the highest percentage of attendance will receive a prize. This challenge is co-sponsored by Nelligan Sports Marketing and the Residence Hall Association.
There is no charge for admission to a Missouri State field hockey game.
