Pair of Bears Named Valley Golfers of Week

Sept. 14, 2011

Missouri State's Daily Young and Kelsey Welber have been named Missouri Valley Conference Golfers of the Week. Young earned his first collegiate victory at the Fairway Club Invitational in Nebraska City, Neb. yesterday (Sept. 13), while Welber placed fifth at the Chip-N-Club Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., her fifth straight top 10 finish.

Young led wire-to-wire, firing 67-74-72--213, three-under-par at the 7158-yard Arbor Links layout to pace the Bears to a second-place finish. The Springfield native shared the men's weekly honor with Wichita State's Hunter Sparks and Calvin Pearson, who shared medalist honors at the Diet Pepsi Shocker Invitational.

Welber collected the women's honor along with Reece Feducia of Indiana State, who tied for second at the Indiana Fall Kickoff. Welber shot 75-79-72--226 at the Country Club of Lincoln to lead MSU to a fifth-place finish in the season opener. This marks the sixth career Golfer of the Week honor for the senior.
