The Missouri State field hockey Bears finished up their stint in St. Louis this weekend with a tough first loss to the Saint Louis Billikens. Despite the Bears fighting to hold the Billikens scoreless in the second half, MSU fell 3-2 at Anhueser-Busch Center.
The Bears looked as though they would carry over their offensive dominance from Saturday's game versus Sacred Heart, in which the Bears scored an impressive eight goals. Hillary Lawlesscontinued to be a consistent offensive threat for MSU, scoring the match's first goal just over fourteen minutes into the match against Saint Louis. The moment was short lived as the Billikens went on to score three unanswered goals in the first half, bringing the score at halftime to 3-1, the Bears trailing.
MSU managed to hold Saint Louis scoreless in the second half, allowing the Billikens only two shots. Go-to scorer, Casey Bayliss, would again come through for the Bears, scoring a goal late in the second half. Despite a strong defensive effort and Bayliss' goal, the Bears were unable to close the gap, and suffered their first loss of the season. Keeper Katie Mulloyregistered 4 saves for MSU during the match.
After this weekend, the Bears are 1-1 overall. MSU will be back in action next Sunday, Sept. 4, as they travel to Indiana in Bloomington, Ind.
