SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Missouri State volleyball head coach Melissa Stokes completed her 2011 coaching staff Thursday with the hiring of Brad “Fritz” Rosenberg as assistant coach. Rosenberg, who comes to Missouri State after serving as a volunteer assistant coach at Kentucky in 2010, begins his duties Friday, April 8, filling the vacancy created by Jeremiah Larsen’s departure in February.

At Kentucky last season, Rosenberg helped the Wildcats (17-14) to the NCAA Tournament while coaching SEC Libero of the Year Stephanie Klefot and AVCA Honorable Mention All-America middle blocker Lauren Rapp, who helped UK rank second in the SEC in blocks per set.

“I’d like to thank Head Coach Melissa Stokes, Associate Athletic Director Casey Comoroski, and Athletic Director Kyle Moats for this opportunity to be a part of Missouri State University and Missouri State volleyball,” Rosenberg said. “They have built a very successful program here in a very competitive conference, and I am excited about the bright future ahead.”

Prior to his stint in Lexington, Rosenberg was an assistant coach at the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne, Ind., where he assisted with all aspects of a program that finished third place in the Mid-Central Conference and carried the highest team GPA of any USF program.

“Brad is going to be a great addition to our staff,” Stokes said. “Not only does he have a good volleyball IQ, but I like that he has gone out of his way to put himself in challenging situations to become the coach that he is today.”

Rosenberg spent 2006-09 associated with the men’s and women’s club teams Ball State University, where he also earned a degree in sports administration with a business minor in 2008. With Rosenberg as the co-head coach of the women’s team, Ball State amassed a 108-6 overall record and three top-five national finishes in three seasons, earning Rosenberg a NIRSA National Co-Head Coach of the Year award in 2008. On the men’s side, Rosenberg served as head coach, president and player, helping the Cardinals improve to 35-16 overall in 2008 after finishing 2-38 in 2005.

In addition to his collegiate playing and coaching experience, Rosenberg tutored four future Division I players as an assistant at Plainfield (Ind.) North High School in 2008, and served as an assistant at Muncie (Ind.) Central High in 2006 and 2007, helping that squad to a state runner-up finish in 2006 and No. 1 state ranking in 2007.

Rosenberg has extensive summer camp and club coaching experience, including time at clinics run by Notre Dame, Kentucky, Bradley and Indiana, as well as Asics Munciana, Club Fusion and Molten Volleyball.

Rosenberg’s hire is pending final approval by the Missouri State University Board of Governors at its next meeting in May.
