ST LOUIS -- Junior Kelsey Welber was named the Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week for her impressive play Apr. 11-17. She also earned MVC Golfer of the Week for the same period.
At the Baylor Invitational, Welber shot a three-round total of 220 to tie for second place in the meet. Her third round score of 69 was the low-round of the tournament. In the process, she defeated 12 players currently ranked in the top 200 nationally according to Golfstat.
To qualify for the Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. Redshirt freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible for the award. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performances for a one week-period.
Welber is ranked third in the Valley heading into this week's MVC Championship, Apr. 22-23, in Normal, Ill.
