For the second time this season, juniors Will Hogan and Kelsey Welber have given Missouri State a sweep of the Missouri Valley Conference's weekly golf awards.
Hogan won Men's Golfer of the Week for the third time this season after firing a nine-under-par 63 Tuesday (Apr. 12) in the final round of the ASU Red Wolf Classic in Jonesboro, Ark. The round tied the MSU school record set last season by Jack Courington and, combined with his opening 74, gave Hogan a tie for second place with a seven-under 137 total. He'll enter the State Farm MVC Championship, Apr. 25-26, as the top-ranked player in the league.
Welber picked up her third weekly honor this spring and fourth on the season after placing second at the Baylor Spring Invitational, where she fired 76-75-69--220, a shot out of first place. In the process, she defeated 12 players currently ranked in the top 200 nationally according to Golfstat. Welber is ranked third in the Valley heading into next week's MVC Championship, Apr. 22-23, in Normail, Ill.
Hogan and Welber swept the conference honors last Oct. 27 when Hogan won the SIUE Intercollegiate and Welber was fifth at the Memphis Invitational.
