The Missouri State women's golf team is in seventh place after shooting 314 in Friday's (Mar. 4) first round of the Rio Verde Invitational in Rio Verde, Ariz. Junior Catherine Dolan and freshman Rikke Falsner led the Bears with 73 and 74, respectively, on the 6300-yard, par 72 White Wing course at Rio Verde Country Club.
Dolan is tied for sixth in the 90-player field while Falsner is tied for eighth. Junior Kelsey Welber is tied for 61st after posting an 83, while sophomores Emma Clegg and Hermine Greyling shot 84 to tie for 69th. Darby Peters of Eastern Michigan and Yugene Lee of Michigan each shot 70 to grab the first-round lead.
Eastern Michigan heads the 17-team field after shooting 294 with Michigan second at 300 and Penn State third with 306. Northern Arizona (309) is fourth, followed by Cincinnati (312), Toledo (313), the Bears, Western Michigan (315), Akron and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (316), Southern Illinois (318), UALR (319), Ball State and Bradley (323), Xavier (326), Bowling Green (337) and Ohio (344).
Second-round play is scheduled for an 8 a.m. MST start on Saturday.
