SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Missouri State volleyball’s 2010 recruiting class has been completed and includes four prep standouts who will join the Bears in the fall.
Courtney McCarter • 5-11, MH/RS • Springfield, Mo. • Kickapoo HSA four-year starter as a middle hitter at Springfield Kickapoo, McCarter led the Lady Chiefs in kills (2.89/set), blocks (0.88/set) and aces (0.56/set) as a senior to earn first-team all-conference and second-team all-district and all-region honors. As a junior, McCarter averaged 3.46 kills and 1.74 blocks on the way to first-team all-conference and all-district accolades. She was also all-district as a high jumper during the track and field season. McCarter led Kickapoo with 1.08 blocks per set as a sophomore while adding 2.54 kills, earning all-region and all-conference honorable mention honors that season. Her grandfather Larry McCarter and great uncle Jerry McCarter played basketball at Missouri State in the early 1960s, and great uncle Cliff Johnson was a tennis player from 1970-73.
Christine McCartney • 5-10, OH • Arlington, Texas • Seguin HSMcCartney was a four-year starter for Arlington (Texas) Seguin High, leading the Lady Cougars to a district 8-4A championship her senior season. She was a first-team all-district and team MVP her junior and senior seasons and was named the district’s top hitter her senior year as well.
Megan Schroeder • 6-0, RS • Racine, Wis. • J.I. Case HSSchroeder was a four-year starter as an outside and right side hitter for J. I. Case High in Racine, Wis., where she was an all-conference pick three times and the Southeast Conference Player of the Year in 2009. She accumulated 554 kills as a senior and 1,287 for her career while earning third-team all-state recognition this season. Schroeder’s club team, the Wisconsin Juniors, has finished in the top 10 nationally each of the last three seasons.
Carly Thomas • 5-11, S • Swansea, Ill. • Althoff Catholic HSThe younger sister of former MSU standout Sara Thomas (2004-07) and niece of Kathy Crotty Wuller (1983-86),
Carly Thomas is one of the most decorated recruits ever to join the MSU program. She was a four-time first-team all-conference pick at Althoff Catholic and made the Illinois all-state first team twice, second team once and honorable mention one time. Thomas was the South Seven Conference MVP her senior season and was the subject of a cover story in ESPN Rise Magazine, a publication devoted to high school sports around the nation.
In 2009, Thomas competed on the USA Volleyball Youth National Team, where she was named the best setter at the NORCECA Youth Continental Championships in Puerto Rico, leading the United States to a gold-medal finish.
She was also a high school teammate of MSU sophomore right side hitter
