MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - Casey Bayliss has been named to the All-Mid-American Conference First Team, while teammate Amanda Miyashita has been named to the second team, the league announced Thursday at its season-ending banquet.
"They are deserving players," head coach Dawn Callahan said. "They have played well for us all season. We are excited for them and proud of their accomplishments."
Bayliss (Jr., Bathurst, NSW, Australia) was the team's leader in goals (9), assists (6), points (24), shots (61) and shots on goal (42), ranking among the MAC's top-ten performers in each category. Her stick work and ball handling were key to a balanced offense attack. Bayliss' nine goals are the highest total for a Bear newcomer since Jemima Cameron's 21 in 1998.
It is the second such honor for Miyashita (Sr., Richmond, B.C., Canada), who was an All-MAC Second Team member in 2008 when she was also named the team's Most Valuable Player. Miyashita had two goals for the Bears and finished tied for third on the team with three assists. She was a defensive leader for the team on the backline and even contributed a defensive save. It was an impressive final season for the team captain.
"We are going to miss Amanda next year; her leadership, her dedication, her intensity at practice," Callahan said. "Those are the players every coach hopes they will be able to coach."
The Bears concluded their season Thursday, Nov. 4, with a 2-1 loss to Central Michigan in the MAC Tournament first round.
