Goalkeeper Bain Named MAC Defensive Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State field hockey freshman goalkeeper Andrea Bain has been named Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.

The Victoria, B.C., Canada native played well in her first two career starts this past week. Wednesday, Sept. 29, Bain picked up the win against Saint Louis, 5-1, making three saves against the Billikens and directing a defensive end that allowed only six total shots.

In the opening weekend of MAC play, Bain kept the Bears in the game Sunday, Oct. 3, at Miami (Ohio) by registering 11 saves on 14 shots on goals.

This season, Bain holds a 2-1 record while splitting time in the cage with sophomore Steph Anderson (Pittsburgh, Pa.). She has a .759 save percentage and a 1.91 goals against average in six appearances.

The Bears are back on the road this weekend with conference games at Ohio and at Kent State. They face the Bobcats Saturday, Oct. 9, at 12 p.m., before facing off against the Golden Flashes Sunday at 11 a.m.
