Junior Kelsey Welber tied for second and the Missouri State women's golf team finished third Tuesday (Oct. 19) at the 2010 MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial in Springfield, Mo.
Welber carded 78-70-75--223 to finish in a three-way tie for second while the Bears shot 313-299-308--920 and placed third in the 17-team field. Welber's second-round 70 was the lowest of the tournament while MSU's second-round 299 was its lowest of the season.
Arkansas-Little Rock ran away with the team title, shooting 307-296-300--903, while Texas-El Paso was second with 304-304-310--918, two better than the Bears. Oral Roberts finished fourth with 307-305-311--923 and Bradley fifth at 313-307-308--928. Central Arkansas (931) was sixth, followed by Drury (938), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (949), Southern Illinois (951), Northern Iowa (974), UMKC (978), South Dakota State (983), Creighton (993), Drake (999), Indiana State (1003), Indianapolis (1013) and South Dakota (1071).
Bradley's Kelly Amundrud claimed medalist honors by shooting 71-74-76--221, two ahead of Welber, Katrina Choate of Drury amd Emelie Westrup of Arkansas-Little Rock.
Catherine Dolan recorded her third top-10 finish in four outings this season for the Bears, posting 74-76-77--227 to tie for ninth while freshman Rikke Falsner tied for 11th with 78-73-77--228. Junior Emily Potts finished 38th after carding 83-80-79--242 and sophomore Hermine Greyling had 85-80-82--247 to tie for 51st. Sophomore Emma Clegg was 37th for MSU playing as an individual, shooting 86-79-76--241, while Emily Matthews tied for 65th with 79-87-85--251 and Amy Bowen shot 90-93-89--272 to place 89th.
The Bears will close out their fall season next Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 25-26) at the Memphis Invitational.
