Missouri State defensive end Waylon Richardet, a junior from Perryville, Mo., has been named as the Missouri Valley Football Conference's Defensive Player of the Week for his role in the Bears' 35-10 win over Murray State on Saturday.
Richardet was everywhere for the Bears Saturday. He recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown, was in on two sacks, and recorded 2.5 tackles for loss as part of his six total tackles. He ran two plays at fullback and also was an integral part of the MSU kickoff return game as the Bears averaged 39.0 yards per return.
Anchored by Richardet's efforts, the Bears' defensive unit held a second straight opponent under 20 points for the first time since the 2006 season.
Other MVFC Players of the Week were Cliffton Gordon (RB, Illinois State), the Offensive Player of the Week, and Todd Speight (RS, Western Illinois), Special Teams Player of the Week.
Missouri State concludes a three-game home stand this Saturday at 1 p.m. when it welcomes No. 4 Northern Iowa to Plaster Field. Tickets are available at www.MissouriStateTix.com and by phone at (417) 836-7678.
