Medrano Earns Freshmen All-America Honors

Missouri State freshman second baseman Kevin Medrano earned a spot on Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-America team, the publication annouced Wednesday. Medrano is MSU’s eighth member of the team and first since Brett Sinkbeil in 2004.

    The MVC Freshman of the Year hit .329 with three homers and 40 RBIs in his first season as a Bear, ranking fourth among freshmen in school history with 76 hits and third with 1.41 hits per game. His 10 sacrifrice bunts in 2009 rank third in school history.

    The Lee’s Summit, Mo., native started 44 games at second base, seven at third base and one at DH for the Bears. He fielded .980 while playing second base, including a .990 mark in MVC play with one error in 102 chances. He also led all MVC players with 37 hits in league games while hitting .374, and put together 24 multi-hit games on the year.
