Missouri State baseball players Buddy Baumann, Ben Carlson and Brayden Drake have been voted to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-Midwest Region Team, it was announced Thursday.

    The Midwest Region is one of eight in the ABCA and includes 12 states. Representatives from Texas, New Mexico, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Indiana and Colorado made this year’s squad.

    A first team choice, Baumann is the 2009 Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year and completed the season with an 11-1 record and 3.23 ERA. The Rogersville, Mo., native is the third pitcher in school history to win 11 games in a season, and his 101 strikeouts in 2009 rank fifth all-time at MSU. The southpaw held opponents to a .220 batting average this year and is eighth in MSU history with 215 career strikeouts.
    
    Baumann has earned All-America honors from three publications this year and was drafted by Kansas City in the seventh round of this week’s MLB Draft.

    Appearing on the second team after earning first team honors in 2008, Carlson hit .301 with an MVC-leading 16 homers and 51 RBIs this year. The Topeka, Kan., ranks seventh in school history with 38 career homers and owns the school hit by pitch record with 41 in his three years.

    Carlson was a CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American second-teamer and first-team all-MVC choice this year, and was picked by Cleveland in the sixth round of the draft.

    Drake joins Carlson on the second team following a season where he hit .414 with 10 homers and 54 RBIs. Drake is the 2009 Joe Carter Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year and a Collegiate Baseball third-team All-American. He owns school records with 67 career doubles and a 30-game hit streak that lasted from April 2008 through March 2009. The Webb City native was chosen by San Diego in the 12th round of the draft.
