Coach Rob Brewer's Missouri State women's soccer team played its final exhibition match of the spring season on Friday night (May 1) and came away with a 3-1 win over Missouri Southern at Plaster Field.
In their only home outing this spring, the Bears were able to maintain ball control for most of the match, scoring the first three goals before surrendering a late goal on a free kick by the Lions.
Senior-to-be Jenna Dobkins opened the scoring with a goal off of a corner kick in the first half, and Christine Cross put the Bears up 2-0 with an impressive score early in the second. Kelsey Finders later completed the scoring for MSU with a shot from 20 yards out that found the side netting.
"I thought it was a very positive spring season for us," said Brewer. "We faced some very good competition and were able to get valuable experience for our young players. They definitely improved as we progressed through the spring, and if you look at the difference between our first and last games, there is a big difference in how we played."
The Bears' 2009 season schedule is expected to be finalized in the coming weeks and will be released through www.MissouriStateBears.com when completed.
