Senior Melissa Lantz (Wildwood, Mo.) has been named to the 2009 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, the league office announced Tuesday.
The award puts a cap on Lantz's terrific final season with the Bears. In addition to this honor, she was also named to the All-MAC First Team, brought home a MAC Offensive Player of the Week award and finished her career tied for sixth on the MSU all-time scoring list.
The team honored 11 MAC student-athletes who were standouts both on the field and in the classroom. Lantz led the team in goals (15), assists (nine) and points (39), while starting all 20 games. Off the field, she has earned a 3.23 cumulative GPA in physical education and will graduate following the spring semester.
"Dawn (Callahan) and I are very proud of Melissa," assistant coach Gabby Gomez Sosa said. "She is a great athlete and a great student as well, and that is what Missouri State field hockey strives for."
She is the first Bear named to the Academic All-MAC Team since Kim Kinsella in 2007.
