The sixth-seeded Missouri State field hockey team will play third-seeded Miami (Ohio) in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament, Thursday, Nov. 5, in Muncie, Ind. Start time is 12:30 p.m.
It will mark the third game between the teams this season, with the Redhawks holding a 2-0 series edge. Miami dominated the first match-up in Oxford, Ohio, beating the Bears 9-0.
It was a very different story the second time around in Springfield, with the Bears taking an early 1-0 before Miami tied it late in the first half. A scoreless second half sent the teams to overtime, where the Redhawks scored in the fourth minute of the extra session to grab a 2-1 win.
A win would put the Bears in the tournament semifinals for the first time since joining the league in 2005.
Awaiting the winner of Thursday's game will be the defending tournament champions, the second-seeded Kent State Golden Flashes, who have a first-round bye.
Kent State and Ohio University were league co-champions this season with identical 8-2 conference records. The Bobcats received the number one seed due to tie-breaker scenarios.
