Missouri State sophomore volleyball player
Cara Hackmann has been named this week’s Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Hackmann averaged 3.82 kills on .500 hitting, 3.18 digs and 1.36 blocks per set over four matches and set the school record for hitting percentage in a match at .882 against IPFW on Sept. 12. Hackmann had 15 kills in 17 attempts without an error Friday against the Mastodons, breaking Mindy Struckhoff’s 23-year-old school mark of .867, and had nine digs and six blocks in the contest as well.
In Saturday’s T.J. Sales/Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational championship match against Arkansas-Little Rock, Hackmann led MSU with 16 kills on .387 hitting and contributed 15 digs in three sets.
The Washington, Mo., native saw limited action versus Alcorn State and UAPB as Missouri State rested its starting lineup most of the time, but still managed to average 2.75 kills, 2.75 digs and 1.5 blocks per set on .364 hitting in the two matches. Hackmann also had four aces, three assists and a .977 reception percentage for the week.
Hackmann and the Bears begin MVC play Friday (Sept. 19) at 16th-ranked Wichita State in a 7 p.m. contest.
