Missouri State field hockey fell 8-4 to Hofstra University Saturday in Hempstead, N.Y. The loss drops the Bears to 4-2 on the season as Hofstra improves to 3-1.
The Bears’ senior Sarah Johnson scored off a corner pass from junior Amanda Miyashita for the first goal of the game in the 15th minute.
Hofstra then scored five unanswered goals in the first half, to lead 5-1.
“We just came out flat in the first half,” head coach Dawn Callahan said. “We played a much better second half.”
Sophomores Jennifer Portell and Stephanie Chase would hook up for a Chase goal to score the first goal of the second half at 42:02. Chase now has three goals on the season.
Junior Alyssa Hile powered one into the nets unassisted for her fifth goal of the season.
Hofstra scored three more times in the second half. Hofstra’s Brit Blankmeyer collected a hat trick in the game also.
Johnson and Miyashita connected a second time off a corner at 68:18.
Junior Melissa Lantz was held scoreless though she had 10 shots with six on goal, nothing could get past the Hofstra goalkeeper. This was the first game Lantz did not score this season.
Senior goalkeeper Jessica Schuster took the loss between the pipes for the Bears, allowing all eight goals and collecting five saves.
The Bears play next at Villanova University Sunday, Sept. 14, at noon in Pennsylvania, before coming home to play Saint Louis University on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Plaster Field at 5 p.m.
