Woodbury wins pair of awards

Missouri State senior outfielder Ben Woodbury has won this season’s inaugural Missouri Valley Conference baseball Player of the Week and the Ping! Baseball Spotlight Performance of the Week honor, it was announced Monday.

Woodbury hit a blistering .714 (10-14) to help the Bears to their first 3-0 start since 2002. Batting from the No. 2 spot in the order, the senior outfielder collected at least three hits in each game, including four versus Arkansas-Little Rock on Sunday.

The West Plains, Mo., native also led the Bears with eight RBIs, scored five runs and was hit by a pitch for a .733 on-base percentage. In addition, Woodbury stole two bases in two tries, including swiping home against UALR. His eighth-inning, two-run single against UALR drove in the game-winning run.

Woodbury’s top RBI outing came Saturday win he drove in four runs in MSU’s 9-6 win over Texas-Arlington. He also had a pair of RBIs in the season opener at Dallas Baptist.
