Missouri State Field Hockey Season Ends with First Round Loss to Ohio

The Missouri State field hockey team’s season ended Thursday in the first round of the 2008 Mid-American Conference tournament in Kent, Ohio, when the Bears fell to Ohio University, 7-0.

Ohio scored first at 1:20 with Marcie Dull dribbling past Bears’ goalkeeper Jessica Schuster. The Bears held Ohio to only two goals in the first half, after Ohio’s Katelyn Shelley passed to Nikki Gnozzio for a backhanded shot at the top of the circle.

In the second half, Ohio’s Paige Herr, Estienne Coetzee, and Shelly each put one goal in while Dull completed the hat trick with 26 seconds left in the game.

The Bears’ were held to only three shots, with two on goal, and one corner. The Bobcats had 23 shots, 16 on goal, and 15 penalty corners called in their favor.

Junior Melissa Lantz was held scoreless but had the Bears’ only two shots on goal.
