The Missouri State women’s golf team maintained its position on Monday, November 3, competing against a very tough 16-team field with several top-ranked collegiate programs. The Challenge at Wolfdancer was hosted by Texas State in Austin, Texas on Wolfdancer Golf Club, a par 72, 6,141-yard course. The Bears finished 13th with 18-hole rounds of 322-326-322 for a tournament total of 970. The women finished only two strokes behind Illinois in 12th and seven strokes behind Iowa in 11th at 963.
Freshman Catherine Dolan led the team individually finishing tied for 20th in a field of 90 golfers. Dolan fired two consecutive rounds of 79 and finished the tournament with a three-over-par round, 75. Her tournament total, 233, was only four strokes out of 10th place. Second for the Bears was senior Amy Phalajivin. Phalajivin posted 77-85-79 for a 54-hole total of 241. She ended the tournament tied in 37th place individually.
Freshman Kelsey Welber finished tied for 65th with 18-hole rounds of 83-81-86. She had a tournament total of 250. Only a stroke behind Welber was freshman teammate Emily Potts. Potts finished tied for 68th with rounds of 83-81-87251. Senior Lindsey Wellenstein ended the tournament in 89th place with rounds of 102-91-82275. Also, as an individual competitor for the Bears was junior Stacey Rodger. Rodger finished tied in 77th place with a total of 254. She shot 18-hole rounds of 91-82-81.
Colorado won the team competition by one stroke over Texas Tech and Texas State. The Buffaloes posted a 54-hole team total of 928. In a tie for individual medalist honors was Megan Dowdy of Texas Tech and Victoria Stefansen of Iowa State. The two golfers finished with a tournament total of 221.
The Challenge at Wolfdancer was the final tournament for the Bears’ fall season. The women are scheduled to return to action for the spring season February 22-24 in Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
