Senior Amy Phalajivin finished only a stroke out of first place at the MVC Preview on Tuesday, October 21. Phalajivin entered the final round in first place and shot 79 while enduring chilly, gusting winds for 18 holes. She finished with a 36-hole score of 152 and was one stroke behind Olivia Lansing of Drake. Lansing shot 75 on Tuesday and posted 151 for 36 holes.
The Missouri State women’s golf team finished fourth as a team in Panora, Iowa. The Bears shot a final round score 326 to finish the tournament with a 36-hole total of 649, one shot back of third place finisher Wichita State at 648. Team champion, Bradley, entered the last day of the tournament in third place and shot a final round 313. The Braves finished three strokes ahead of second place Drake with 637. Drake shot 317 for a 36-hole total of 640.
Following Phalajivin for the Bears was freshman Kelsey Welber. Welber finished tied for 17th place with rounds of 83-82 for a total of 165. A stroke back of Welber was teammate Catherine Dolan. The freshman posted 85-81 for the tournament and carded a 36-hole total of 166 to place tied for 20th. Senior Mallory Mahon finished tied in 23rd with rounds of 83-84167. Also for the Bears was freshman Emily Potts who shot consecutive rounds of 84 to finish with a 36-hole total of 168. Potts finished tied for 26th place individually. Senior Lindsey Wellenstein fired a 79 in the final round of the tournament and finished with a total of 173 in 38th place.
The Bears are idle next week and return to competition the following week. They will travel to Austin, Texas to play in the Challenge at Wolfdancer. The tournament is scheduled for November 1 and 2 with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
