The Missouri State field hockey team was upset by Ball State Sunday, in Muncie, Ind., 6-2. The Bears fell to 6-10 on the season, 1-5 in Mid-American Conference play. Ball State improved to 2-12, 1-5 in the MAC.
Junior Melissa Lantz put the Bears on the board first on an unassisted goal at 16:12 for her 15th goal of the season.
The Bears went into halftime down 2-1.
Ball State then fired off four goals, two unassisted and one off a penalty corner.
Lantz tallied her 16th goal of the season when she connected with junior Alyssa Hile off a short corner play seconds before the match ended.
Both goalkeepers saw action for the Bears against Ball State. Senior Jessica Schuster allowed four goals and collected six saves, while freshman Mackenzie Crawford only allowed two.
Ball State out shot the Bears, 22-8, and also received more penalty corners, 14-7.
The Bears return to Springfield to host Central Michigan for two games at Plaster Field, Saturday Oct. 25, at 10 a.m. and on Sunday, Oct. 26 at noon.
