The Missouri State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept Southern Illinois University Saturday at Hammons Center Pool, in Springfield, Mo. The MSU men dominated their side of the meet, outscoring the Salukis 180-118. The women edged Southern Illinois with a close score of 153-147.
Sophomore Breanna Hollar was a double-event winner for the Bears. Hollar was dominate in the fly events, claiming first-place in the 100 fly and 200 fly with times of 28.32 and 2:08.91, respectively.
In the 1000 free, Missouri State claimed first, second and third-place. Freshman Katharina Voelkel caputured first with a time of 10:38.84, Hilary Morrow took second in a time of 10:50.51 and Nina Bailey placed third in 10:52.49.
In the diving competition, sophomore Chelsea Ray dominated in the one-meter and three-meter claiming first place in each event. Ray posted a score of 225.80 on the one-meter board and a score of 255.30 in the three-meter competition.
Matana Wellman placed first in the 500 free clocking a time of 5:11.17.
On the men’s side, freshman diver Eric Docourneau claimed first on the one-meter board with a score of 279.90 and first in the three-meter competition with a score of 331.50.
Freshman Cajun Skinner was a triple event winner for the Bears. Skinner led the 400 medley relay team to a first-place finish in a time of 3:23.83. Individually, Skinner claimed the 100 breast with a time of 58.42 and posted a time of 2:09.10 to claim the 200 breast.
Victor Serra dominated the fly competition taking first in the 100 fly in a time of 50.64 and first-place in the 200 fly with a time of 1:52.03.
Eduardo Pajares paced his way to a victory in the 200 back, finishing the race in 1:52.07. Senior Ignacio Gayo sprinted to a win in the 50 free in a time of 21.22. Nicolas Villarroel was the winner of the 100 back, touching the wall at 50.95.
Josh Uddermann, Dillon Burns, Serra, and Gayo combined for a time of 3:08.32 to claim first in the 400 free relay competition.
The Missouri State swimming and diving teams will travel across town to challenge Drury University Thursday, Jan. 24. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
