Missouri State’s two-game winning streak to open the 2007 season ended Friday when Central Arkansas defeated the Bears 2-1.
The first-round game of the Missouri State Comfort Inn/Diadora Tournament featured a 90-minute weather delay due to lightning. Central Arkansas struck first however, when senior midfielder Jimmy Nummy scored from close-in in the 14th minute. Area lightning strikes moments later prompted the delay.
Missouri State sophomore midfielder Brent Madawick drilled a shot from 10-yards out into the lower left corner of the goal 6:27 into the second half to even the score at 1-1. Central Arkansas sophomore defender Rudy de Anda netted the game winner on a 18-yard shot in the 79th minute that was deflected by a Bear defender before finding the net.
Western Illinois improved to 3-0 with a 1-0 victory over Drake in other first-round action Friday.
Central Arkansas (2-1) will face Drake (1-2) Saturday at 5 p.m., followed by the Bears against Western Illinois at 7 p.m. to conclude the tournament.
