G. Davis, Arkin honored by Gateway

Missouri State tailback Gerald Davis and offensive tackle David Arkin were honored by the Gateway Football Conference for their play in the Bears’ 62-17 season-opening win Thursday over Missouri-Rolla at Plaster Field.

Davis, a senior from St. Louis and a Bears’ co-captain this season, was named the Gateway Offensive Player of the Week after he rushed for 110 yards, caught one pass and ran for a record-tying four touchdowns for the Bears. Davis scored on runs of 4, 2, 2 and 44 yards in the contest.

Arkin, a redshirt freshman from Wichita, Kan., who was playing in his first Missouri State game last Thursday, was named the league’s Offensive Lineman of the Week after he graded out as the Bears’ top blocker for an attack which punched up 690 yards in total offense for the game and produced Missouri State’s highest point total in a contest in six years.

Missouri State has another Thursday game this week when the Bears travel to Martin, Tenn., to take on the University of Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks at 6 p.m.
