The Missouri State volleyball team used an efficient offensive attack to dispatch league rival Indiana State in three games Friday night in Terre Haute, Ind., for the team’s seventh victory in a row.
MSU hit .284 for the match with just 14 errors in three games. Sara Staubach led all players with 11 kills, while senior Sara Thomas added eight against no errors and freshman Cara Hackmann had seven on .400 hitting.
The Bears used game victories of 30-24, 30-15 and 30-17 to improve to 12-2 overall and become the first league team to reach 3-0. ISU fell to 3-8 and 0-3 in MVC games.
Missouri State trailed early in game one before grabbing the lead at 7-6 and not relenquishing it the rest of the match. Staubach had five kills in the first frame as the Bears hit .359.
Game two saw the Bears hit a nearly identical .357, paced by Thomas with four kills on as many swings. MSU blocked three Sycamore attacks and added two service aces in the 30-15 win.
The Bears left no doubt in game three, winning the first eight points and leading by as many as 16 at 23-7. Missouri State held Indiana State to -.125 hitting in the period.
Nikki Vandepopulier and Thomas shared the team lead with 10 digs apiece, and freshman Shayla Patrick was in on three of MSU’s six blocks.
Indiana State finished the match with an .048 hitting figure and had no players with more than five kills.
The Bears face Illinois State (10-4, 2-1) tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in Normal, Ill.
