Missouri State Shut Out By San Diego State

San Diego State shut out the Missouri State men’s soccer team 1-0 Friday in the UNLV Tournament. The loss drops the Bears to 2-4-1 overall.

Missouri State recorded a stellar defensive effort against the Aztecs, who notched their third consecutive shutout. Jamel Wallace’s header into the left corner of the net in the 78th minute resulted in the lone score for the Aztecs. It marked the second consecutive game in which the MSU defense has played admirably, but surrendered a late goal. Nationally ranked Tulsa defeated the Bears 1-0 Saturday on a goal netted late in regulation.

MSU senior goalkeeper Lance Parker recorded four of his five saves in the first half. The Missouri State offense established itself in the second half with four shots on goal. Senior midfielder Yanik Joseph spearheaded the Bears’ offensive surge with two shots on goal.

Missouri State will play the host Rebels Saturday at 9:30 p.m. to conclude the tournament. The Bears will compete in their fourth consecutive weekend tournament September 28-29 at Bradley. Missouri State will play Illinois-Chicago, Friday, and Indiana University Purdue University-Indianapolis, Saturday.
