Women's golf stumbles on last day in Arkansas

The Missouri State women's golf team endured its toughest day of the season Tuesday (Mar. 27), slipping from second place to a tie for seventh in the final round of the UALR/North Texas Classic in Hot Springs, Ark.  After firing 297-296--593 to open play Monday, the Bears shot 321 in the final round to slip five spots in the 17-team field.  Arkansas-Little Rock, which led MSU by five entering the final 18 holes, claimed the team title with 295-293-301--889, while Middle Tennessee State took second after shooting 306-296-300--902, one better than UTEP's 903.

Individually, UTEP's Gerina Mendoza took medalist honors by scorching the Diamante Country Club layout with a six-under-par 66 in the final round for a 207 total.  Senior Sally Hinton was the long bright spot for the Bears on Tuesday, shooting 73 to go with 75-72 for 220 and a sixth-place finish.  Bear junior Missy Linnens tied for 18th at 70-77-79--226, while freshman Stacey Rodger shot 74-74-85--233 and sophomore Amy Phalajivin had 78-73-84--235.  Junior Lyndsey Adams was forced to withdraw Monday due to an injury.

The Bears return to action next Monday and Tuesday (Apr. 2-3) by hosting the Missouri State/Payne Stewart Memorial at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield.
