The Missouri State women's golf team shot a 296 Sunday (Mar. 11) and finished fourth at the 18-team Rio Verde Invitational in Rio Verde, Ariz. The Bears broke from a four-team logjam in fifth place and jumped over Wisconsin to move into fourth, tying the school 18-hole scoring mark and finishing with a 54-hole score of 305-299-296--900. Baylor edged Arkansas-Little Rock 886-889 for the team title with Toledo finishing third at 892.
MSU was led on Sunday by sophomore Lindsey Wellenstein, who notched a career-best one-under par 71 just a day after shooting 74. With her opening 84, Wellenstein finished at 229 for the tournament. The Bears were led for the three rounds by senior Sally Hinton and junior Missy Linnens, who tied for 13th place with 225 totals. Hinton shot 76-75-74 while Linnens recorded 75-73-77. Sophomore Amy Phalajivin carded 75-78-76--229, freshman Stacey Rodger fired 79-77-75--231 and sophomore Mallory Mahon posted 81-82-83--246.
The Bears return to action Mar. 19-20 at the Diablo Grande Intercollegiate in Patterson, Calif.
